Andy Murray described his five-set victory over Richard Gasquet as "the best moment I've ever had on a tennis court."
Murray battled back from two sets and a break of serve down to beat the French eighth seed late on Monday evening amid tumultuous scenes on Centre Court.
"The crowd were unbelievable and to come back from two sets down with him serving for the match, it's an awesome feeling," Murray added.
Murray admitted he had been outplayed in the first two sets. "He got a little bit nervous towards the end of the third and I just had to keep fighting."
Gasquet reckoned the partisan atmosphere had not helped him.
"At 5-4 in the third I should win," he said. "Andy fought hard right to the end but the crowd really carried him.
"With the light it was strange. When I was eight years old I could understand playing in the dark to finish a match but not at Wimbledon. But I understand they wanted to finish the match and it is not an excuse.
"In the fourth and fifth sets he returned better than me and that was probably the key. I hope to play him at Roland Garros one day. I won't be alone for sure and it will be hard for him.
Murray's reward is a quarter-final meeting with Rafael Nadal on Wednesday and he is hopeful of upsetting the world number two.
"When I've played him in the past on faster courts, I've had chances against him and I'm definitely a better player than I was before and fitter," he said.
