For so long the nearly girl of tennis, Mauresmo's golden 2006 - the highlight of which came here in SW19 - was extremely popular among fans. However, just two years on and a return to that hey day seems unlikely. Mauresmo publicly contemplated retirement earlier in the year after injuries conspired against her last season. She is sure to be cheered to the new rafters on Centre Court, but early exits at this year's Grand Slams so far don't bode well and neither does a thigh injury picked up in Eastbourne.
